A good copywriter is like the heart in our body. It dictates where the user will go next and if they are going to stay on our website or go elsewhere.
That’s why it’s extremely important to produce high quality and relevant content for sites we care about. Sometimes we posses skills for creative and relevant copywriting, in any other occasion we need someone to do that for us. For that reason you might want some tips on what to look for when hiring a copywriter for your service.
The first thing you should make sure of is the possibility for correction of content you will get from a copywriter. Someone extremely cheap may want to have a job done so he / she can start another one without too much effort.
Lack of experience can produce general content that needs explanation. That in turn cannot be provided without extensive knowledge about the kind of business you do.
That leads us to our second concern, which is knowledge and experience (to some extent) about your business. Some professions have their own jargon and, without knowing specific vocabulary, even the best content your copywriter produces is worth nothing.
The third thing that we would like to make you aware of is timing. Quality content isn’t created overnight. It requires days or weeks spent digging the right amount and relevant information for which the content will be about. It is easy to promise deadlines within a few days, but you’ll be fooling yourself when it comes to judging the quality of that “masterpiece”.
Research is one thing but feedback and communication is another one. I don’t criticize anyone’s creation but no one knows your business like you do. That’s why during the creation process you should be involved as well.
The next important thing you should be worried about are the questions your copywriter is asking you. When they are too general or, even worse, random, this is the sign of poor knowledge, lack of experience, etc.
During that stage everything should flow easily. Your conversation should look like a chat with your very best friend.
The best copywriter is someone who understands your business and does not attempt to create content out of the blue. It is someone who knows that creating quality and relevant content takes time, effort, which costs a bit more than some of us think. Finally it is someone who, like you, asks straight to the point questions, and is willing to correct his / her mistakes if such happens.
