It is said that images are worth a thousand words and this is true even in web design. While embedding and creating pictures become easier as time goes by, there is a tendency for web designers to clutter the website they created with useless images. Their excitement to create eye popping visuals for users and to unload text memorization and understanding for web site users and visitors, some web designers forget basic principles behind dealing with effective use of pictures during the web designing phase. Look around some of your favorite website and you will see perfect examples of useless images plastered on the site. This is not alarming as one can easily remedy the problem. However, in the onset, the issue about cluttering the site with irrelevant images should have been addressed first by observing principles when it comes to the use of images. Treat Photos and Images as Content Instead of Fillers Pictures should not only jazz up the website you created. It should enhance the over-all text content of the site. Thus, you have to evaluate the photos first and evaluate whether or not it gives meaning to website users once they navigate site. Will the picture provide a meaningful impression and help user answer their problems? Use Quality Photographs or Images You cannot extract the right emotion or action from site visitors if you have poor quality images. Users want to view pictures as they are able to digest content easily with the help of images. However, as a web designer, you must also take note of photo fundamentals such as size, quality of exposure, and composition in order for users to get excited and be interested with what the site offers. Be Coherent with Site Objectives What is the site intended for? Is it to inform, to sell, or just to promote products? Thus, being clear with the intention, you will be able to carefully select the images you want to embed such as: Determining the emotional appeal of the pictures – Will the customer want to buy the product once they see the pictures? Will it affect their decision making as users can identify the benefits of the product or idea by just staring at the image? Does the picture you want to embed consistent with the reputation your client wants to project? You have to remember as web designers that users can detect if the images are just fillers and in that case, their brain will not process the information you want to convey. Use Pictures That Guide Users One of the most neglected aspects on dealing with images relative to web designing is using pictures that help point users to what the site is all about. For example, if you want people to know about your unique selling proposition, use action pictures that will drive users to the text you want them to read. It might also help to use a model pointing to different flash cards to show what you want them to read. Yes, pictures can help relay what you want to express in a website you design for as long as you have observed the ideas mention beforehand. Pictures are useless if it cannot encourage the right action you want users to perform while they are on your site. Every website owner would like to know whether to choose a multi-page website or one page website. If you ask this question from anyone today, you will get the obvious answer that go for a multi-page website because that’s what everybody out there has. But are you wondering why you are getting such low web traffic? You are doing search engine optimization, you have a mobile response website, it is integrated with social networks, and you are have changed the layout of the website too just to make it simple, but still things are not going the way they are supposed to? Maybe having multiple pages in the website is the reason why all this is happening. Wait what? Is that really possible? You must have many questions in your head right now… If a multi-page website isn’t good for attracting visitors then what kind of website is? What is a one page design? A new approach is to go for one page design website. What is a one page design? One page website is the one that has a single page…It does not have any additional pages such as the about us page, services page or any other page. It aims to provide just the perfect amount of information to a reader or visitors so that he can make a prompt decision and act on it. The basic purpose of these websites is to remove all the clutter and let the visitor focus his attention to the most important content there on the page. One page vs. multi page design Don’t visitors need extra information when they land on a website? Is one page really going to be enough? These questions might be haunting you. Have a look at the comparison of both these designs and see how a one page design really matter? A smooth journey: When a visitor lands on a website, he would like to take the straight driveway for getting what he wants right? That’s what one page design can offer. The visitor would remain focused while browsing. He will find the information he had been looking for without moving onto different pages to reach to the desired information. A multi-page design on the other hand is a tangled journey. Visitors often get astray or they don’t really find what they had been looking for. That’s a major contributor in driving traffic away. A happy user experience: A multi-page website of course is a combination of different pages and a user might have to click through many pages to access the information he wants. This can be really time wasting. On the other hand, one page design makes information available with just a simple click. It is the beauty and simplicity of the one page design that the visitor sees everything displayed at one page and he does not have to keep on clicking for information. It can be a plain and happy user experience. Quality at its peak: For a website, quality matters more than quantity. In that case, one page design is all that you need. If you only have a single child, you will give all your attention to him/her. Same is applied in case of one page website. All your creativity will be absorbed in this single page. But in case of a multi-design website, you will need lots of creativity. Each page will demand your attention and you might not be able to add quality in each of them. What are the troubles in a Multi-page design? Multi page design is particularly chosen for e-magazines, blogs and other news portals. This layout for a website is particularly very crowded. It is a city with complex stress, roads, and lanes. There are obvious chances that a visitor when land on such a website will get lost. You will always be worried whether your visitor was directed to the right page or not. The biggest problem of all is that a visitor can easily get confused and he won’t hesitate to just close the website. That’s what’s happening with many website owners around and they don’t really understand the reason why the sales are so low. A multi-page design requires high level of maintenance. If you wish to change a feature or add something new, you are going to have to make changes in each page. It is going to be really troublesome and time taking for you to maintain the website again and again. Multi-page web design is like a loaded truck, you can’t run fast otherwise you might drop something. That is exactly why the pages take so much time to load. We all know visitors don’t like to wait for a web page to load. You are going to need higher bandwidth for making the pages load faster and in that case, your costs are going to rise too. Search engine ranking is all what matters when you have a website and you want it to get noticed. In a multi-page design, the links are disturbed among different pages which is why the chances that your homepage will get a higher rank get reduced. You will have to put double efforts on the optimization of your website to get it noticed by the search engines. One page design is the future now It uses a story for compelling the visitors. A website is a medium through which you communicate your audience about what you are right? A story is the best way to deliver the intended message and motivate the listeners to take some action. That’s how you can compel your visitors with a one page design. You can create an interactive, captivating and immersive experience to move the visitors to take some action It is easy to digest. When you land on a website, you typically see navigations on the top, text, icons and images in the body and various other links. This can be a really blunt and scattered experience. A single page website displays the whole story on a single page. It has a simplified design that can take the visitor to center of the stage where all the information is available clearly. A seamless experience is provided because the message is clearly visible to the readier. Single page design can yield higher conversion rate.It is simple web design that is beautiful and it portrays the story well. All this is enough for providing conversion. Every website has its own primary objective. In order to generate leads, you need to promote your products, build your online community, compel the visitors to go for download and sell your products and services as much as you can. These objectives can be best packaged in one page website. It has a simple yet straightforward design combined with the best propelling visuals. It is more focused as compared to a standard website. Conversion rate for one page design has been better and this has proven again and again. It can provide faster, easier and effective iteration. You can easily make changes on the basis of analytics and feedback of the users. As it is going to be a single page, you can easily make the required changes without consuming much time. You will just have to focus on weaving a powerful story on a single page. You can also work on specific details and make necessary changes to create a satisfying website than before. It encourages sharing better than any other multi-page website. The bounce rate on one page website is less because the confusing material is already excluded from the website. The visitor gets to know the purpose of the website without roaming around on different pages. That will make visitors spend more time on your website. It is hard for a visitor to share the whole website on social networks. And visitors don’t like sharing landing pages. But when a single page website has a compelling story which deserves to be shared, a visitor won’t hesitate hitting the share button. This can be an effective sales funnel for a website owner. A single page website looks great on all devices. That’s because no matter what platform it is, the design will be uniform. A responsive web design can easily fit on all devices. For a single page website, you are not going to get into much trouble of making the layout fit well on various devices. Now what is your decision? Do you want to keep on letting visitors leave your website because of all that clutter or do you want to go for the trend of single page website? Keep in mind a single page website does not meant that you dump the information altogether in a single place without thinking it’s useful or not. Both web designs might require same kind of designing effort. You don’t want to choose a cheap approach and end up ruining the chances of success of your website. Pageless design seem to be the future of the web now. Don’t you want to tap onto this opportunity to generate more leads? Related posts: Flat web design – what is it and why it is the next big thing? If an aspect serves no functional purpose, it’s a distraction from user experience. This is the reason for the minimalistic nature of flat design. However, just because it lacks any flashy design doesn’t mean this style is boring. Bright, contrasting colors make illustrations and buttons pop from backgrounds, easily grab attention, and guide the user’s eye. The purpose of minimalistic imagery also contributes to flat design’s functional character. Simple images convey messages more quickly than detailed illustrations. Images like icons can indicate universal actions or purposes so that everyone can easily understand them. It’s easy to see an immediate difference between a skeuomorphism and a flat design. Notice how the bigger, solid color blocks are more attention-grabbing and the meaning of the icons can quickly be perceived. Trend Have Short Life Span Just like any designing technique, flat designs will also have a limited life span. In the present times, they are widely used by the designers but in times to come, designers might opt for something more innovative and long lasting. Too Simple to Use It is a challenge to deliver visual messages effectively using flat designs. Though the designs are beautiful and visually appealing but they have serious limitations as well. Inadequate Options It supports very limited designing elements. Use of animations and creative tricks is not incorporated in flat designs which are a big restriction for the designers. A content that has the ability to communicate with audience is getting popular. Flat web design – what is it and why it is the next big thing?
